TODAY: **MUMS Wear it Purple Day Picnic** Date: Friday 30th August Time: 11:30 - 13:00 Location: Peter Hall Lawn Come to the MUMS Wear it Purple Day picnic to enjoy some food and fun while showing support for LGBTQ+ youth in Mathematics. Don't forget to wear purple! ---------- **Join us in celebrating the contributions of LGBTQ+ Mathematicians in the lead-up to Wear it Purple Day this Friday 30 August!** Emily Riehl is an American mathematician known for her work in higher category theory and homotopy type theory, as well as being one of the founding board members of Spectra, a professional association of queer mathematicians. Her work focuses mainly on model structures and the foundations of infinity-categories, exploring the relationships between algebraic and topological structures, contributing to both the theoretical framework and practical applications of these areas in mathematics. Beyond her research, Emily Riehl has published three textbooks on category theory, with a fourth in preparation. She also serves on the editorial board for three mathematical journals, and was a founding board member of Spectra. Emily Riehl has not only contributed to her fields of category theory and homotopy theory, she has also led a career full of service and outreach. Spectra is an LGBT mathematical association advocating on behalf of queer mathematicians and increasing their visibility in the field. Riehl's success in her field, combined with her advocacy for diversity and inclusion, makes her a role model and a powerful voice in the mathematical community.
